Overview

Held during the month of July or August, Esala Perahera (the festival of the tooth of Lord Buddha) is a prestigious event signifying Sri Lanka’s rich religious heritage. This festive event sees the participation of dozens of dancers, drummers and other types of performers clad in vibrant costumes to pay tribute to the revered tooth of Lord Buddha and Buddhism as a whole. A special highlight of the Esala Perahera is the participation of beautifully decorated elephants. This festive procession features fire-breathers, traditional dancers, jugglers, and much more. It is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

DAY 1 AIRPORT – SIGIRIYA
Travel Duration 05 hrs

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport, you will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality, Representative from the Travel Agent will Welcome you and transfer to Habarana. Before arriving at your overnight destination Habarana, take a stop at Dambulla and visit the Dambulla Cave Rock Temple which lies atop a massive hill on the edge of the town. It is one of the eight UNESCO world heritage sites in the country.

DAY 2  HABARANA

Early Morning leaving from the hotel to proceed to visit the Sigiriya rock fortress.

Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress

Climb the 5th century AD rock fortress, Sigiriya, where the King Kasyapa ruled. Walk through the entrance framed by the paws of a lion that is quite appropriate for its name, ‘ the Lion Rock’. View the beautiful unfading murals that brought Sigiriya its fame. Climb the steep staircase to see the terraced gardens and still-working cisterns. Walk through the tunnels leading to the palace as you get a feel for times long past.

Local Village Experience in Sigiriya

Get a chance to go on an oxen cart ride, and experience the world from the view of a village farmer. Have a relaxing catamaran safari through a calm lake. Walk through the golden fields ripe with their harvest of paddy. Watch an enjoyable traditional cooking demonstration that teaches you the basics of Sri Lankan cuisine. Delight your taste buds with a home-cooked lunch; made over a wood-fire and served on fragrant lotus leaves placed over woven trays. Enjoy the life of a Sri Lankan villager, just this day.

 Evening Jeep Safari of  Minneriya National Park

Minneriya National Park is located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa. Covered an area of 8890 hectares park is an ideal place for elephant and leopard watching. The vegetation of this park is mixed evergreen and scrub areas. The important feature of this park is that 3rd century built Minneriya Tank is located in the park. During the dry season Minneriya tank becomes the ideal place to observe its natural wild life. Minneriya National Park is home to 24 species of mammals,160 species of birds , 75 species of butterflies, 9 species of amphibians, 26 species of fish and 25 species of reptiles.

DAY 3  HABARANA-KANDY

After getting the breakfast from the hotel proceed to Matale and walk around the well grown spice gardens.

Spicy Garden
Visit a spice garden in Matale to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. Just 25 km from the hill capital of Kandy, the Matale spice gardens are among the best on the island. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed.

Then proceed to Kandy & engage with the following Activities,

Go on technical tours related to arts such as gem crafting, woodcarving and visit batik factory.

Evening check in to witness of Kandiyan Cultural Show

The Kandy Cultural Show gives an opportunity to experience some of the traditions of Sri Lanka. Enjoy this hour long extravaganza as some of the most popular art forms of the island take to the stage. Get wowed by fire dancers and sword dancers. Watch the colorful Kandyan dancers take to the air to the thrumming primal beat of the drums.

Visit Temple of Tooth Relic.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was built in the 16th century as the place of veneration and protection for Lord Buddha’s sacred tooth. Walk through the beautifully embellished passageways and elaborately painted halls, done in red, cream and black. Lounge against delicately carved pillars and get amazed by the beautiful golden statues. Get an unforgettable experience of history and art.

DAY 4 KANDY

After the breakfast visit the vegetable,fruit market, town center, an arts and crafts center and the vibrant bazaar not far from the lake, which is worth seeing for the diversity of products and its atmosphere. Afterward visit to  Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, located just 5 kilometers from the Kandy City.

Royal Botanical Gardens

Visit the famous Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, which were formed in the early 19th century. Walk through the vast area containing over 4000 species of plants. Enjoy the learning more about the orchids, spices and medicinal plants. Wander down avenues shaded by large and rare trees or bordered by flowering plants. Enjoy seeing the cannonball tree, walking over the wobbly suspension bridge and through the short hedge mazes or even climbing the twisty trees that make wonderful jungle gyms.

 

Udawatte Kele Sanctuary (optional)

You can join for a trekking in Udawatte Kele Sanctuary which is just above the Royal Palace of Temple of Tooth Relic on this day. If you are a Nature Lover the Udawattekele Sanctuary which is a verdant nature reserve located within the district of Kandy with a wealth of indigenous and endemic plants.

DAY 5 KANDY-NUWARAELIYA
Travel Duration 05 hrs By Train

After breakfast leave Kandy and embark on a train journey (Need to book the train 01st class Train Tickets 02 months before pre arrival) that takes you on a scenic ride through some of the most beautiful highland countryside areas in Sri Lanka. Upon arrival at the Nanu Oya railway Station, your driver will be there to pick you up and make a stop in Nuwara Eliya, a small town with a very British vibe, with its Georgian houses with manicured lawns and hedges, its Anglican church and its beautiful parks. Located at over 1,800 meters above sea level, this resort enjoys very mild temperatures.

Tea Factory Visit

Tea Factory to learn how tea is manufactured in Sri Lanka. You can observe the tea pickers, locally known as ‘tea pluckers’ as they move between the lush green rows along the mountains with their large baskets.Thereafter you will be given a guided tour explaining fermentation, rolling, drying, cutting, sieving and the grading of tea. Finish with a tea tasting process and learn of the history, and why Ceylon Tea is considered among the best in the world.

Explore the Beautiful City

The highland city that was the premium holiday resort town of the British in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Enjoy walking through the streets with their pretty little cottages, quaint villas, and beautiful mansions. Make a memory in the old red-bricked post office as you purchase an inexpensive and colorful postcard to take home or send to your friends. Relax at Queen Victoria Park or on the shores of Lake Gregory.

DAY 6 NUWARAELIYA-HORTONPLAINS-NUWARAELIYA

After Breakfast proceed to Horton plains National Park. it takes approximatlely 02 hrs Journey.

The Horton Plain Plateau is a secluded wilderness sanctuary 2130 m high and offers one of Sri Lanka’s most unforgettable views. Here the land plunges down a dizzy gorge to the southern foot hills and on clear days, even a glimpse of the sea more than 80 km away. The Horton Plains are the habitat of giant Rhododendron (an evergreen shrub with large clusters of trumpet shaped flowers), tree fern primrose and daffodil orchids and birds such as the Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush and Arrenga, the Shaggy Bear monkey and the blue mormon butterfly and many other endemic and endangered montane species. Traditionally called ‘Maha Eliya’ the Horton Plains was founded by Sir Robert Hortain, the British Governor in 1831-37. and established as a nature reserve in 1969 and a National Park in 1988.

DAY 7 NUWARAELIYA-NEGEMBO

After the Breakfast at the hotel Transfer to Negombo,Which is located north of the commercial capital of Colombo in Sri Lanka. It is located at the mouth of the Negombo lagoon. The major beach resort in the West Coast is Negombo. The wide sandy beaches and the safe sea are the main attractions of Negombo.
